Not only is York such a beautiful city, but it’s also my home city. Now that I live back in York, I decided to check out York Christmas Market. The market has been in York since mid-November and will remain right up to the 23rd December 2016.
Unfortunately it was quite late in the evening when I made it to the market, but some stalls were open and the food stalls/bar were still open and full of people. York is very popular for a day trip out around Christmas time, especially for people who live in towns and cities around York.
I feel like the Christmas Market always brings an extra special festive magic to our city. There is a beautiful atmosphere from stalls selling gifts and aromas of warming mulled wine. Compared to other cities Christmas markets, there is a wide variety of market stalls to choose from. All of them offering locally-made gift ideas and/or unique stocking fillers. Supporting local businesses in our region is important, so markets are a great place to visit in support.
You can also keep warm with a hot chocolate, mulled wine or something stronger – all available from an independent bar. There are also plenty of food stalls, with a variety of options to choose from. The market can be hugely busy on a weekend, so if you can, perhaps try visit on a week day when it will be a little quieter. As you can see from some of the photos, a lot of other parts of York and the shops are also all lit up with Christmas lights.
If you get a chance, do try visit York Christmas Market. It can be very busy but there is a wonderful atmosphere. If you’re looking for a special gift for someone, you may find some lovely gifts for them. The market is open until 10am-6pm Sunday – Wednesday, and 10am – 8pm Thursday – Saturday.
