For my boyfriend‘s birthday in August I treated him to a short break away in Harrogate. Even though Harrogate is close to York, it’s still nice to have some time away together. I’ve always enjoyed day visits to Harrogate, shopping with my family, so I figured it was the ideal place to take Kiel away for his birthday.
Once we arrived in Harrogate, we had some lunch in a tea room so we could locate our hotel via Google Maps. Unfortunately it was a very rainy day so we thought it would be best to find some lunch before heading to the hotel to check in. Luckily, we’d picked a tea room which was located two streets away from our hotel. Therefore, we didn’t have far to walk in the rain.
After paying and checking into the hotel, we headed up to our room. I’d booked such a beautiful room which had a lovely view at the front of the hotel. The room was so spacious and clean, we were genuinely impressed.
After spending an hour or so getting ready and freshening up, we went for a walk to find a bar so we could have a drink and relax before our meal later on. Kiel spotted a very cute retro-style bar, which was really unique inside, with a variety of vintage board games spaced out around the room. I can be quite choosy when it comes to cocktails, but I decided on a G&T which was refreshing.
In the evening, as a part of Kiel’s birthday gift, I treated him to a meal out at Le Bistrot Pierre. For some reason I’d randomly remembered there was one of their restaurants in Harrogate, which I’m really glad we visited.
Both Kiel and I have very similar tastes in regards to food, so as you can probably see, we both chose the pork for main. We also had a bottle of white wine to share. When it came to deciding which wine to have, the gentleman who served us was so knowledgeable and got samples of each of the ones we said we’d like to try – which was incredibly thoughtful. The food tasted so delicious and it was beautifully presented. I’d definitely return to Le Bistrot Pierre in future. It was such a nice treat for us both and we left with our tummies full of yummy food.
Harrogate is also home to one of my favourite cocktail bars, Montey’s Rock Cafe. York used to have one but it is now known as Gibsons. Montey’s was my favourite bar throughout my late teens and they sell one of my favourite cocktails ever. It was nice to spend some quality time together, enjoying some awesome music and drinks.
The next morning we had a small sleep-in, but we had to check out by a certain time so we packed our bags and left them in storage at the hotel. We noticed some beautiful gardens nearby, so went for a relaxing walk around the stunning Valley Gardens. This was actually a really nice morning and the sun was shining a bit. After we’d walked around the whole of the gardens, we found a table in the café and had some toasted teacakes for our breakfast.
Next we went to a restaurant for some lunch, which if I’m honest wasn’t the best quality but at least we’d had something to eat.
We then headed to the hotel to grab our suitcases and went to the retro bar that we first went in the day before. We had some drinks and sat playing retro board games together for the rest of the afternoon until our train, which I enjoyed so much.
To conclude what was an incredible short break away for Kiel’s birthday, we loved Harrogate and really enjoyed our stay. It was brilliant having a short break with my favourite person and celebrating his birthday together! I love you Kiel x
