Chaophraya Leeds is a Thai dining experience, with a twist. I was lucky enough to be invited recently, to their new menu tasting where I got to bring along a +1 and had the meal free of charge. It’s generally an unspoken rule now that I bring Jess, my housemate, along to any Leeds events where I can bring someone with me.
If you live in, or near Leeds, you may have heard about Chaophraya before. Jess used to study in Leeds and had heard a lot about the restaurant, so she was very excited to be coming along with me to try the new menu.
The brand, Chaophraya, have recently launched an amazingly unique new menu. I expected wonderful things and my god, did they deliver! I was also very impressed with the lovely atmosphere throughout the restaurant, plus the decor was so stunning.
Chaophraya Leeds (and their other restaurants) encourage diners to eat “family style”, by ordering a variety of dishes and sharing them with others at your table. Jess and I did try each others food, which I enjoy because it helps me more when writing a review.
We were both thoroughly impressed by the drinks menu. There was a brilliant choice of cocktails available, but Chaophraya offer an amazing cocktail option which is totally unique, a DIY cocktail. The DIY (Do It Yourself) Cocktail is brought already measured out in parts, to the table. The staff member will explain which order to add everything in. You basically create the cocktail yourself at the table, which I loved! I thought this was really different but so cool.
Whilst we waited for our starters, Thai crackers and a sweet chilli dip were placed on the table for us to snack on. I thought this was a nice touch and I’d never tried Thai crackers before, but I really liked them.
To start, Jess and I decided to have a sharing platter so that we could experience a variety of different food. This was presented beautifully, consisting of pork balls, chicken skewers and chicken spring rolls. The dressing on the chicken skewers was very tasty.
For her main, Jess chose a pork dish with egg fried rice. I tried some of her pork and it melted in my mouth. It tasted so nice. As for my main, I decided on the Chicken Thai Green Curry with sticky rice. It was a little spicy but nothing I couldn’t handle. Thai green curry is one of my favourite dishes so I couldn’t really not choose that to be honest. To accompany our food, the waitress brought us over a bottle of white wine.
If I’m honest, all of the desserts sounded (and looked – when I glanced at other tables) amazing. Jess decided on something a little different and had the trio of Thai desserts. This included thai pancakes, mango and sticky rice. I struggled to choose between a melting chocolate pudding and the white chocolate box. The white chocolate box was absolutely delicious, I definitely made the correct decision.
Our experience at Chaophraya Leeds was genuinely brilliant, the food was fresh and tasted amazing. Everything was perfectly presented and the staff were so helpful. All staff were very passionate about the Chaophraya brand. I was very impressed with everything and I would love to return again in future! Check out the Chaophraya website for more information and to view their menu.
Have you visited Chaophraya Leeds before, or any of their other restaurants in the UK? What did you think?
