After almost 3 years, I’ve had to say goodbye to my hamster Simba. I booked an appointment at the vets earlier this week as I could see she was in pain.
For the past few weeks my little hamster, Simba, hasn’t been very well. I first noticed a lump growing about two weeks ago and it kept growing, so I decided the best decision would be to take Simba to the vets. It turns out that this lump was actually cancer.
I know Simba was “only a hamster” but she was such a huge part of my life, especially in my final year of university when I was going through an awful time with depression and anxiety.
I’ve got so many amazing memories with her. She was the best hamster ever. On a funny note, there was confusion about her gender but the vet confirmed that she was female. No wonder she was such a poser!
On the walk to the vets, I got to say goodbye to her properly. She was clearly in a lot of pain and I made the decision which was best for her, which was to be put to sleep. I was there when it happened and her little eyes were looking over at me.
I’m genuinely heartbroken right now, but I know I made the right decision. Dream sweetly Simba, at least you’re in hamster heaven now and no longer in pain. RIP beautiful Simba.
