Keeping a small apartment organised can be quite the task. I currently live in a one bedroom apartment with my other half, in a central location. Although we can struggle for space, the location is ideal for the both of us. Storage is something which most people in small apartments struggle with, as it is usually limited which can be challenging. In this blog post, I have gathered a list of my own tips and research from what I’ve learned living in a small apartment.
Consider additional self storage options
One great idea is you could treat yourself to a bed which has space for storage underneath, or an Ottoman bed which is designed to lift up with space inside/underneath it. Hidden storage is a great way of beating clutter.
Hire someone to take care of those DIY jobs which usually just get left
If you can budget for it, there is always the option of hiring someone to do your DIY jobs around your apartment for you. You may be able to have one recommended to you by friend or family, or there are brilliant websites such as TrustATrader where you can search via location and the specific trade you are looking for, e.g. builders in Sheffield, locksmith in York, etc.
Utilise shelving and cupboard space
Put décor such as candles, ornaments, etc on shelves where they can be displayed perfectly. You could also organise your cupboard space to be more effective and make room to store additional items and utensils away.
Replace your coffee table with a storage chest
This is a great way of saving space – I actually did this and I store additional bedding and cushions inside ours. Even though it’s a chest, it looks great in the centre of our living area.
Clear out your cupboards and wardrobe every so often
Decluttering is a great way of creating space but it can also be a good way to earn a little bit of extra cash, as you can sell unwanted items online. By doing this, you can ensure you are keeping on top of your belongings and making extra space.
The list is endless to be honest! Having a serious overhaul of your belongings will probably make your home feel more inviting. If you start now with these organisation tips and keep doing it every so often, you will find that keep your small apartment organised and it will be less cluttered.
