Deciding on a blog name can be one of the toughest decisions to make when creating a brand new blog. When I created my first blog, it was fashion based, focusing on one specific brand. After I began to branch out into other topics, I decided it would be better to change to something which would work overall.
When thinking about a blog name, it’s important to consider the following:
Easy to remember
You want something which will stick in peoples minds and be easy to read/say. I have had a few experiences where people are unable to spell my last name (I actually think it’s quite easy but oh well), so if I could go back in time, I would have maybe had my branding as Louise Rose.
Consider your blog topics
Write a list of topics you would like to cover on your blog. Then add words which connect to the topic, e.g. if it is a food blog, consider words such as delicious, your favourite ingredients, or words which describe how food makes people feel. Think about words you would want to include and words you would like to avoid. Circle the definite options, which will then help you with your decision. This is how I came up with the name Feast Upon York for my other blog which focuses on food and dining in York.
Research blogs you enjoy and like yourself
You are not trying to steal or copy someone else’s name or idea. However, looking at blogs you like can help with inspiration and creativity. In my case, other bloggers I admired who covered lifestyle topics used either their full name or part of it as their blog name. This helped me to decide on using my full name as it’s straight forward.
The process of choosing a name can be tricky, but you will feel relieved once you’ve decided on one. If you are rebranding, I have a post focusing on ideas of how you can give your blog a boost. If you need more tips on how to choose a blog name, there are plenty of resources available online.
