Collaborative post. They say travel is good for the soul, don’t they – but it doesn’t always have to involve anything long distance.  Day trips, weekends away and longer ‘staycations’ are proving really popular this summer, so why not rediscover those places closer to home?

What does North West England have to offer?

The North West offers a wide range of possibilities, from big city breaks to its breath-taking coastline and countryside.  And many other places in the area are real hidden gems too – with lots of special delights to uncover. So, in this post, we’re going to concentrate on somewhere we’d happily describe that way – the beautiful town of Warrington, in Cheshire.

Warrington sits right on the River Mersey, approximately 20 miles from both Manchester and Liverpool.  So it’s easy to reach when you’re in the area – or if you fancy a quick day out and live more locally. There’s something on offer here for all ages, tastes and budgets – it might just surprise you, if you’ve never visited before.

By Day

If it’s shopping you’re after, you won’t be disappointed – there are plenty of independent shops and markets here for you to enjoy.  And you’ll find all the big high street names at the Golden Square Shopping Centre, which is great to spend time in, whatever the weather.

Nature and the outdoors

If you love the outdoors, you’ll be spoilt for choice in Warrington – with beautiful gardens in the area at Walton Hall and Grappenhall Heys.  And if wildlife’s your thing, a visit to Wild Wings Birds of Prey Centre or Applejacks Adventure Farm could be right up your street.

If you’re a culture vulture, you won’t be disappointed either – the Museum and Art Gallery above the Central Library, is one of the best of its kind in the country. With almost 2,000 amazing artefacts from right across the globe – in addition to an impressive collection of historic and contemporary art – there’s something for everyone to enjoy.  This summer, you’ll find exhibitions on history and issues of identity, as well as ones exploring local connections with space.

By Night

And at night, Warrington really comes to life, with a wide range of restaurants, bars and clubs to suit all ages and pockets. You’ll find everything on offer from gin and cocktail bars to real ale pubs and jazz clubs. Savannah 19 is particularly popular, offering live entertainment every weekend and 9 Gallon, in the centre of the cultural quarter has a lovely, unique ambience. Close by is Palmyra, a Victorian terrace bar conversion and, as Warrington centre is fairly compact, every where’s easy to move around and enjoy..

And when you want to get back to your hotel or home, you can just call a reliable, trustworthy Warrington minicab company to drive you. It’s best, after all, to ensure you’re always in good hands and end your evening safe and secure,

With all this available, we think you’ll agree this is one town you really shouldn’t miss whenever you’re in the North West. So why not visit Warrington on your travels this summer – and sample all the great things this place has to offer?
