Blogging does sometimes have it’s perks because recently I was invited to stay at Grassington House, an award winning restaurant with rooms in The Yorkshire Dales. Based in the market town of Grassington, Grassington House is a boutique hotel owned by John and Sue. Grassington is a wonderful place to visit and stay, especially because it has such a beautiful square and the Yorkshire Dales has breath-taking views.
Upon arrival, we were led to the check-in desk where I was introduced to Sue. She is so lovely and helpful, she was explaining about how her family run the hotel and told me of how much effort she puts into decorating every Christmas. Sue made us feel very welcome and we were impressed with how much of a lovely family feel Grassington House has.
Grassington House itself is beautiful inside, with a lovely bar and sitting area which has such a cosy atmosphere. We had a nice sit down in the comfortable chairs near the delightful fire at one point, with a glass of English fizzy wine.
Our room for the night was The Red Room. The room was exceptionally clean and it had lovely attention to detail, such as the homemade flapjack which was waiting for us in our room. The Red Room was a decent size and spacious, with a king size bed. The bathroom was relatively big, with a large shower. The main feature of the The Red Room was the claw-foot roll top bath, positioned on a raised platform. Each room includes locally sourced organic soap toiletries, which were beautiful.
The wonderful Grassington House is also very well known for its restaurant and the food. The quality of food in the restaurant was absolutely incredible. Sue had explained to us how they had just had the restaurant completely re-designed and it is now pretty much complete. She said it just needed some last finishing touches.
To start, both mum and I picked the amazing Yellisons Goats Cheese with tomato, garlic and parsley. Mum chose Pan Roast Goosnargh Chicken Breast for her main, whilst I had decided on having the Grilled Line Caught Pollock Fillet. For dessert I had the beautifully presented and tasty Chocolate cake, baileys ice cream, coffee ganache and honey comb.
After we’d finished our evening meal, we decided to wrap up warm in our coats and head out for a walk around the village square to get some fresh air. Grassington House looks stunning on a night time, with all the pretty lights.
After a comfy nights sleep, we awoke to my mum’s birthday. She sat on the bed and opened her cards with me which was so brilliant. Even though I was so full from our meal the night before, I was very excited to see what was in store for us at breakfast. I was not disappointed at all. There were two parts to breakfast, with the first option being a variety of cereal and yogurts. I chose the homemade granola which was amazing, it had hints of orange and tasted so good.
The next part of breakfast was the cooked options. I decided to have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and my mum chose the vegetarian breakfast. Both were absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. It was such a great way to start our day before our journey home to York with awesome food for breakfast.
Grassington House is such a beautiful boutique hotel. The food and service was exceptional. We were very impressed with how beautiful our room was and the little touches like the homemade flapjack upon arrival, which made our experience even better. Thank you so much to Sue and her family for making my mother and I feel so welcome. It was such a pleasure to stay in and review the stunning Grassington House. Visit the Grassington House website for full details about the boutique hotel and it’s restaurant.
Overall score: ★★★★★
This scoring isn’t an exaggeration, everything was perfect and it’s probably one of the nicest places I’ve stayed. The location of Grassington and Grassington House itself was very easy to find. The room was beautiful, as was the food. The staff were so helpful and did everything they could to make sure we had a nice stay. We were truly impressed – thank you Grassington House.
