Finding your interior style can be a daunting task, whether you are moving into a brand new home or just want a change and to start from scratch. My boyfriend and I are almost a year into living together in our lovely apartment. We were lucky that we were the first tenants so everything was brand new, including the kitchen and bathroom. Both of us had previously lived in furnished places, so this was the first time we were both starting with nothing. Not very glam at all, but my first night in the apartment, I slept on the living room floor. Our parents helped us by giving us a few bits, so it was from there that I could aim to find an interior style I liked.
There are so many different places where you can find interior and style inspiration, some of which are much closer than you think. Magazines, for example, may be overlooked by some. Interior magazines can be a great place to start as they feature many “real life homes” which you could take inspiration from. Curl up on your sofa and have a good nosey through some magazines. You’ll soon discover what style(s) you prefer.
Below are some more options which you may not have considered:
Look in your wardrobe
This option can often be overlooked. However, looking through your clothes can be a great way of seeing what your interior style could be. Is your style full of bright colours and patterns? or do you wear stripes often? Your style with regards to fashion, can be a great method of inspiration for your home.
Pinterest all the things!
A wonderful site like Pinterest is such a great source for inspiration, as it is thought of as a visual search engine. For example, you could do a search on Pinterest for a stunning designer radiator and this will show you all of the images it believes are relevant. If you find an image which you love and pin it to one of your boards, the clever algorithm will then suggest other images of a similar style and colour. I personally have Pinterest boards full of a variety of different things, such as Disney, fashion, hair, beauty, interiors, garden, etc. The possibilities are endless with Pinterest! Instagram can also be another method of inspiration, by searching specific hashtags.
Look at other cultures
Have you previously travelled, or are you going somewhere soon? You can easily take inspiration from other cultures, as there might be a city or country you love. You can take interior inspiration from a variety of sources, including smells, texture, patterns, clothing, etc.
Your bedroom is important, also
Don’t let yourself get carried away by just focusing on the main living areas and neglect giving your bedroom(s) a new style. There are some great deals online for treating yourself to some new furniture or a brand new mattress. There are plenty of great deals available on bargain and voucher websites such as Groupon. It’s easy to solely focus on one area without realising. Your bedroom is where you sleep, so it’s important that its the room which feels most comfortable.
What inspires your home interior style? Where do you find your interior inspiration?
