My lovely mother’s birthday is at the end of November, so we recently treated ourselves to a spa break away in Harrogate. We got a wonderful package deal through Secret Escapes, which included our meal on the first night and breakfast on both days.
On our day of arrival, we got to Harrogate around 2 or 3pm and parked the car up. We checked into our hotel, The Kimberley Hotel, which was beautifully decorated for Christmas.
Our room was pretty spacious, clean and there was a bottle of wine and some chocolates waiting for us (as a part of the Secret Escapes deal), which was a nice touch.
We walked out into Harrogate and did a little bit of shopping in Primark and got some Christmas presents for people from the little independent shops. After a while, I realised time was ticking on so we went back to our hotel to get ready for dinner.
As I mentioned before, our meal on the first night was a part of the package deal from Secret Escapes. To start, mum had the paté and I decided on smoked salmon. I chose the duck for main on this night, which was so incredibly delicious and beautifully presented.
Both mum and I were so incredibly full after our meal, so we decided to wrap up warm and head out into Harrogate for a walk and some fresh air. We got to see lots of pretty Christmas lights throughout Harrogate during our walk. Once we got back to the hotel, we got straight into our PJ’s and watched I’m A Celebrity before going to sleep.
The next morning we got up for our breakfast – you got to choose what you fancied, mum had cereal and I had a cooked breakfast. Then we popped out to browse around the shops in Harrogate and later on in the day we found a cute little tea room, so we could have some lunch.
As a lovely treat, we’d booked a spa visit to Harrogate Turkish Baths and Spa. Unfortunately, there was a mix up with our booking which we weren’t pleased about – but they did their best to help resolve the issues. First of all, we got to relax in the jacuzzi until it was time for our beauty treatments. I’d decided to have a back, neck and shoulder massage which I’d never had done before. Wow, I was so relaxed afterwards. Mum had flotation therapy, which she had never done before this visit and she told me she would definitely have it again.

By the time we’d finished at the spa, it was just about time that we needed to get back to the hotel and get ready for our evening meal. We thought the food was really great on the first night, but my god, we were both so impressed the second night of our stay.
To start, both mum and I ordered the smoked salmon. For my main, I really fancied the steak and I’m so glad I chose it because, wow! The homemade chips were also so tasty. My mum had the seabass which looked and tasted incredible also.
For dessert, mum opted for the crème brûlée and I had the rich chocolate brownie with orange sorbet. Just look at how stunning these are, plus they tasted beautiful. So totally worth it.
Happy birthday mum! Thank you for coming away with me for our Harrogate spa break. I had such a wonderful time. The spa day, shopping and food were all excellent.
